(IMA News) Jonathan Aitken, a 65-year old former government minister who spent seven months in jail after being convicted of perjury, has been appointed to head a task force on prison reform in the United Kingdom.
…..Aitken, a former Conservative Party minister, received his surprise appointment as head of a task force, set up by Britain's official opposition party, called the Centre for Social Justice, and believes he is the right man to help bring the light of Jesus into Britain's prisons; he tells prisoners that "I have been where you are now."
……Irish-born Aitken attended an elite private school for boys and was a playboy millionaire before becoming a prominent member of the Conservative Party. He was sentenced to 18 months imprisonment in 1999 after being convicted of lying to a court over allegations that he allowed a Saudi Arabian businessman to pay for his hotel during a private visit to Paris. When Aitken came out of jail after serving his sentence, he was a changed man…..a committed Christian. |
